2020 is winding down… What’s in store for 2021?
A review of this year
Whew! What a year. It’s probably been one of the most hectic ones for a lot of us in a long time. How has your year been?
Pandemic aside, 2020 was my first year as a full-time freelancer, without any job on the side. Thankfully, business has been growing throughout the year. If this growth continues it looks like I can keep doing this for many years to come – especially with your support giving me a stable base to keep working on Netherrealms!
At the beginning of this year, I was still using this Patreon as a “support my general art” platform and I had zero Patrons. That changed in March when Kim Wedlock decided to become my first ever Patron.
Along the way, a few others joined to show their support for my work (thank you!!). When I decided to restart working on Netherrealms, more people started supporting and as of this writing, we’re at 19 Patrons!
Thanks to you, Patrons of the Netherrealms, we’ve hit our first goal. That means that I can start building the Netherrealms website as soon as I wrap up my obligations for this year.
I’m so happy I started working on Netherrealms again, and I’m thrilled to see you here already, to see the beginnings of the project as it grows.
Onward to 2021!
When inspiration strikes, I note it down either in my to-do list, or I make a quick sketch in thumbnail form. There are so many things that I can draw inspiration from while out and about or seeing other people create their work that I’ve already collected 11 thumbnails in a “to do” folder, as well as a sketch that I worked on a bit more extensively.
I also have some sketches for so-called “story moments” that I’d like to redo/expand on with my current skills.
All in all, I have concepts ready for 20 pieces already, which is more than a year’s worth of content at our current pace! If we, by some miracle, hit our current final Patreon goal, I’ll have to come up with some extra content by the end of the year because I’ll have so much time to devote to produce new art for Netherrealms 🙂
In the review section I already mentioned the Netherrealms website, that we can build thanks to you. As I said, I plan on starting work on that as soon as I wrap up my current obligations. I plan to host the website where I already happily host my portfolio website, and I’ve bought an extra license for the current WordPress theme I use.
The only thing I still need to make a decision on is what domain name to use for this website. Netherrealms/.com is already taken, so we need to come up with an alternative. I could use your help with that – so if you have any ideas, feel free to leave a comment! I’ll put up a poll in January with the most beautiful and clear options and see which one resonates the most.
One last thing I’d like to incorporate into this planning for 2021 is: your feedback. What would you like to see from the Netherrealms? Do you not care for something at all? Again, feel free to leave a comment with your ideas. You might give other Patrons new ideas as well! I’d love to brainstorm a bit with you all.
Have a great week and I’ll be back next week with the half-hour timelapse of our December piece!
